Part Dance Movement Therapy, part talk therapy, these sessions explore the theme of body image for people in large bodies.
Sessions are facilitated by Hadassah David (Creative Arts Therapist) and Dr Jessica Green (Psychologist) and are made up of roughly 45 minutes of movement, and 45 minutes of talk therapy.
The movement component of the group is tailored to those present with no "right" or "wrong" way to engage. We often use props, music and creative processes to bring forth movement so there are multiple ways of engaging regardless of movement preferences or mobility. Themes explored in movement may include cultivating body awareness, self expressoin, connection with others, building healthy boundaries, exploring values and habits, and listening to the "body voice" among other topics.
The talk therapy component is an opportunity to discuss issues important to the group. Previous topics have included dealing with fat phobia from health professionals, dating in a fat body, dealing with family/eating at Christmas and ways to create your own fat-positive community.
Sessions run fortnightly during the school term on Monday nights from 7:30-9pm. They are located at Eat, Live, Love - Level 1/134/136 Cambridge St, Collingwood VIC 3065.
